MEMO
Dear Friend,

We have reached a critical point in our campaign for U.S. Senate support for the release of Mordechai Vanunu.  We urgently need your help.

Last winter 36 Members of Congress signed a letter calling on President Clinton to ask Israel to free Vanunu on humanitarian grounds.  The President replied that he shares their concern about Vanunu's prison treatment.

Constituent appeals in many Congressional districts played a big part in securing those signatures.

This summer we launched a similar effort in the Senate. We detect potential support. But so far we have not found a Senator who will take the lead in initiating a joint letter to the President, to be co-signed by other Senators.

More pressure is needed if Mordechai is to have the Senate support he deserves. Will you help?

As soon as possible, please send a message to your U.S. Senators. The mailing address is

U.S. Senate
Washington, DC 20510

E-mail addresses are available from the Senate offices.

Use your own words and arguments in asking that the Senator take the lead in initiating a joint Senate letter asking Clinton to urge Israel to release Mordechai Vanunu on humanitarian grounds. You may wish to point out that Vanunu has suffered enough for his crime of conscience and that the letter would be especially timely now in view of the arrival of a more peace-oriented government in Israel.

And please pass along this request to any who may be interested.

With many thanks,

Sam Day
