Time to End Nuclear Secrecy, Writer Urges
It’s time for Israel to throw off the cloak of
secrecy by joining other countries in an open debate about nuclear weapons
policy, says a writer for Israel’s second largest daily newspaper.
Reuven Pedatvor put it this way in the April 4
issue of Ha’aretz: “The cloak of utter secrecy concerrning the nuclear
issue cannot be allowed to remain. Although operational details must certainly
remain top-secret, the same cannot be said for the various areas in which
the nuclear area has an impact on the quality of life and the future of
Israeli citizens.
“After all, there is one important thing to remember
here: In none of the democracies that debate the nuclear issue has national
security been impaired.”
