Anniversary Vigil Report From London

October 23

- There was a 12 hour vigil near the Israeli embassy, at the site of the regular weekly vigil for Vanunu.

We stayed the full 12 hours without being rained off! We had a good response from our 'names' (Adrian Mitchell, Dr. Paul Oestreicher, Joan Horrocks, Tom Conti, Jeremy Corbyn MP, Susannah York, Janet Bloomfield, Anthony Grey, Pat Arrowsmith, Corin Redgrave, Bruce Kent, Mike Kustow, Professor Joseph Rotblat, Benjamin Zephaniah, Richard Hamilton, Sabby Sagall, Ben Birnberg, Christopher Logue), all of whom spent time in the cell. We also had a good turnout of supporters throughout the day. There was some press coverage, with a free post-bag of letters and e-mails from the Sunday Times piece, which at last printed our name at the end of an article.

We will be sending Mordechai photographs of all who sat in the cell, the message book, an audio recording of the brief interviews and the press cuttings.

We raised 110 during the day, in small donations; sold quite a lot of material; distributed over 3,000 leaflets as well as a great many bulletins and other information sheets.

All in all the general feeling was that it had been a successful demonstration in support of Mordechai.
