Free Vanunu Vigil in San Francisco
by Jeanie Shaterian
On Thursday, September 28,
the Bay Area Campaign to Free Mordechai Vanunu had its annual vigil in
front of the Israeli consulate in San Francisco. This year well over
thirty people showed up (our record!) with signs and high spirits.
Organizer Cynthia Johnson introduced four special speakers:
June Stark Casey of Peacelinks, a
Hanford downwinder; Mark Gaffney, author of Dimona: The Third Temple?;
Gary Lambrev, who in 1987 founded the Bay Area effort to free Vanunu;
and Barbara Lubin, of the Middle East Children's Alliance.
Within minutes two hundred flyers were gone. Harried Financial District
workers were surprisingly receptive and supportive and a great time was
had by all.
