Trial in D.C.
Prosecutors in Washington, D.C. failed to convict four people arrested last September at the Israeli Embassy. The four sought to deliver a letter demanding freedom for Mordechai Vanunu on the anniversary of his 1986 kidnapping from Rome by the Mossad.
Just before their December 12 trial was to begin, charges against Colleen McCarthy, Elayne McClanen, and Susan Clarkson were dropped. The prosecutor presented a poor case against U.S. Campaign associate coordinator Art Laffin, so Laffin asked the judge for an immediate acquittal. The judge agreed that the case was unproven, and granted the motion.
