Worldwide Vigil Reports - from Washington, D.C.
Carrying signs and banners, vigilers in Washington, D.C. walked up the road together at noon to the Israeli Embassy. Many colorful banners, calling for Vanunu's release in Hebrew and English, were ones that were used in past years during international gatherings to Free Vanunu in Israel. A new banner read "Countdown to Freedom - 205 Days. Mordechai Vanunu - Nuclear Whistleblower, Imprisoned 17+ Years". The number is erasable so the Countdown to Freedom can be changed and updated at each monthly vigil there until Mordechai's release.
About 40 people gathered across the street from the embassy to listen to several speakers, which included a reading of Mordechai's poem "I Am Your Spy" and recitation of Psalm 91. Vigilers sang songs and signed a birthday card for Mordechai.
Afterwards, Kathy Boylan crossed the road and walked up to the embassy fence with a sign reading "Free Mordechai Vanunu". As she remained there, several dozen people walked up and were processed to enter the embassy for a briefing. They were pro-Zionist, right-wing Christians, in D.C. as part of a Congressional Prayer Conference. Kathy spoke to them about Mordechai as they filed past her, asking them to pray for him.
By the end of the vigil, police hadn't arrested her (something that has happened often in past years when vigilers cross onto embassy property), so she re-joined the others across the street.
